The center for sex offender management, which is a part of the US Department of Justice published these myths in August of 2000.
Myth:
“Most sex offenders reoffend.”
Fact:
Reconviction data suggest that this is not the case. Further, reoffense rates vary among different types of sex offenders and are related to specific characteristics of the offender and the offense.
Individual characteristics of the crimes further distinguish recidivism rates. For instance, victim gender and relation to the offender have been found to impact recidivism rates. In a 1995 study, researchers found that offenders who had extrafamilial female victims had a recidivism rate of 18% and those who had extrafamilial male victims recidivated at a rate of 35%. This same study found a recidivism rate for incest offenders to be approximately 9% (Quinsey, Rice, and Harris, 1995).
We are spending our time and energy on registries that have little effect on the issue at hand. Policy makers what say you?
Why do ppl are making big deal for NY governor’s sex scandal.Since he is one of those typical sex crazy American ppl.Majority of American ppl are sex hungry all the time.It would be interesting to know an how many sex partners average american ppl will have in their entire life?countless I guess?
Especially if they are highly vocal about how Democrats who are caught in a sex scandal are not fit to hold office?
What Senator Craig did is disgusting and inexplicable on several levels. But isn’t this another demonstration highlighting the hypocrisy of using the sex lives of Americans as a party platform? I think it does…conservatism is about respecting the privacy of others, not rambling on about old testament morality!
